Albian Royal Family

The current Albian Royal Family are members of the House of Arundel. The reigning monarch these past thirty years has been Queen Augusta. Other immediate members include Prince Frederick, heir to the throne, and the Queen's young granddaughter, Princess Perdita.

History

The Arundels have been in power these past four hundred years, and are descended — in one form or another — from the kings of ancient Albion. Their popularity has waxed and waned with the generations, largely depending on the character of the current monarch and his or her family.

A short-lived civil war two hundred years ago ended absolute monarchy in Albion. After that, any crowned monarch had shared power with an elected Ministry.

Current State

The people of Albion are very proud of and attached to its royal family, and consider the Queen — and increasingly the Prince Frederick — both the rightful head of state and a living symbol of Albion. The Palace of Whitehall, in the city of Arturia, is the traditional home of the Royal Family, a bragging point for patriotic residents. Although their power is no longer absolute, the family and their chosen assistants still play a huge role in Albion's politics.

The current family of royals has represented to Albians everything that is right with their country. A kindly, conservative, and dignified queen is the matriarch, living in the Palace of Whitehall with her respected son and pampered granddaughter. The Queen is getting older, however, and has been in ill health since the Albian-Prussian War. The Prince Frederick is making preparations to take on the role as Head of State.
